How To Cook a Roast

Cooking a roast can be daunting for some, but with a few tips and tricks, it can be a delicious and satisfying meal. First, choose the proper cut of meat. A beef roast is best when it comes from the chuck, rib, or loin sections. For pork, a shoulder or loin roast works well. Once you have your meat, season it generously with salt, pepper, and other herbs or spices.

Next, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the roast in a roasting pan and add some chopped vegetables like onions, carrots, and celery around the meat. This will add flavor and help keep the meat moist. Cover the pan with foil or a lid and place it in the oven.

Cook the roast for about 20 minutes per pound for beef and 25 minutes for pork. It's essential to check the roast's internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure it's cooked to your desired level of doneness. For medium-rare beef, the internal temperature should be around 135 degrees Fahrenheit. For medium pork, it should be about 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once the roast is fully cooked, let it sit for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to be redistributed and ensures a juicy and tender roast. Serve with your favorite sides, like roasted potatoes and vegetables.

Cooking a roast may take some time, but the result is well worth it. You can create a flavorful and impressive meal for any occasion with the proper cut of meat, seasoning, and cooking methods.
